A Brief History of the 0.5 per cent reduction factor
In 1985, the Pension Fund was seriously underfunded so adjustments were made to increase the funding level. Most of the changes that were made would only affect future employees, including requiring them to work longer by increasing the normal retirement age from 60 to 62 years.

The day after the Council concluded, FAFICS held a pre-retirement seminar for ESCAP and UN staff in Bangkok. The half-day event was held in hybrid form, with some 15 in-person attended at at least 89 participants who connected remotely.

UNJSPF leads the way on emerging technologies

Last week, UNJSPF participated in two UN-led fora on emerging technologies: the World Summit on the Information Society (WSIS)+20 Forum and the AI for Good summit, held in Geneva.
During WSIS+20, the International Telecommunication Union published its 2023 report on United Nations Activities on Artificial Intelligence (AI). Highlighting the need for careful balance between innovation, regulation, and inclusion, this publication recognizes the importance of UN-led innovation that benefits everyone and accelerates the attainment of the 2030 Agenda for sustainable development.
